Resistance 2 takes up right where the Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against.

The Return of the Chimera
The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth's climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements.

Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes.

The Battle Moves to the United States
After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies demolishing the city with fiery beams. Burned and mangled, it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States you're sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies.

In Chicago, you'll be joined by a squad of soldiers all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you'll need to work together moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you'll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save mankind. And if you're hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won't leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience.

Online game play Goes BIG
Powered by Insomniac Games' third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play, and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.

Collector's Edition is Loaded with Extras
Resistance 2 Collector's Edition is loaded with extras that are sure to impress even the most die-hard fans. This special collector's edition comes with an exclusive 5.5-inch Chimera Hybrid action figure that's packing a Bullseye weapon. The package also includes a double-sided Resistance art book that covers a war-torn America from two unique perspectives, and a bonus DVD that includes exclusive commentary, in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer skin, a Behind the Scenes video, and lots more.

Resistance 2, set in the United States, is loaded with new weapons, enemies, and an unprecedented online gaming experience.

really good game! 5 out of 5

just try it its so much fun to run around shootin aliens. the online cooperative is the best mode to play in, its fun and challenging to have other people out there helping (or hindering sometimes) your mission.

Fun shoot 'em up 4 out of 5

This game is much improved over the first. The controls, AI, and graphics are the biggest improvements. The gun play is solid, the multiplayer is very fun with 60 players at a time so you're never far from a fight or help from a teammate. Give it a 4 out of 5, and it's a must have for people who like Doom or Wolfenstein games.

Gotta love a game that isn't a carbon copy of the first 4 out of 5

This is an amazing game. And my gripes are few. The goods here are that it's more colorful than the first and some of the enemies are massive, which is always fun. The new weapons are all worth using and some of the old ones have been tweaked to perfection. So why am I giving this game a 4? Well, certain parts of it simply feel unbalanced where the difficulty is concerned. What I mean is that sometimes the fight getting you to a boss is much more difficult than the boss itself. And some of the earlier stages are more difficult than those later in the game. You'd expect this sort of imbalance in the real world, but it just feels wrong when it shows up in a video game. This really isn't a major drawback, but I don't feel comfortable not mentioning it. And it's the ONLY thing keeping this game from being a 5. It is one of the most engaging first person shooters out there. Don't let it pass you by.

Not better than first but still great! 5 out of 5

Hey all this is Sam AKA Para in the gaming review community. This is one of many gaming reviews I will be starting for Amazon, so I hope you enjoy. Going to be talking about Resistance 2 and what I think is a great second edition to the original game. First off let's talk about the story which I have to say is great and very well written. The voice over acting is outstanding and makes it feel like you are in the story. Taking place after the first game this game seems to stay on track and not go into a whole new story line which is a +. The cut scenes are phenomenal and will have you wanting to see more after and before each mission. The ending was good but without any details being said I was a little sad that is how it ended.

Now for the gameplay, it was nice visually and audio wise. With a good tv everything seems to come out at you graphically. It is a big improvement and so well detailed. The sound is also amazing, bullet passing your head just have this sense that they are coming out of your screen and literally next to you. The environments are well detailed and have great sound effects to go along with them. Controls for the game are the same which is nice, always hate when the new version changes from the original but not in this case. Boss fights are bigger and better and have you fearing how in the world you are going to kill something like that but that is what makes this game exciting.

Now for online/multiplayer which I can say is very fun because I love how they made classes and xp to level up each. Team work is very important and it is nice to have a medic and a tank work together to mow down incoming enemies. The missions that they put for co-op are very fun and enjoyable over and over and being able to bring a friend along is very nice. Competitive is also fun and intense but they did pull it off nicely. As I said the xp system is nice for gaining new guns and abilities which makes it even more worthwhile to level up and play online so you can own the next noob with lower level guns lol. There is a lot of replay value cause of this xp system and the co-op modes will have you coming back for more and trying to beat each level on the hardest difficulty with friends.

Overall great game and is defiantly GOTY game material. If you have not played the first, do so and then pick this up.

Score out of 5

Concept/Story: 5*, Just awesome, picks up from the original and goes down a linear road so it is not off topic. Voice acting and cut scenes add to the excitement.

Graphics: 5*, Great and very detailed. You will be at awe at some of the enemy details and the environment. Water looks great in the game and the lighting was very well done.

Sound: 5*, The sounds just flow with the environment and that effects of the guns and explosions make it feel like you are one step closer from actually being in the game.

Entertainment Value: 5*, Fun with friends and even solo. I have to say though more enjoyable with friends and playing co-op.

Control: 5*, Not really hard to learn if you played the first, easy if you are new.

Replay Value: 5*, Playing with friends just makes this game so replayable and with the xp system to gain new stuff you will want to max out and show off.

Thank you for your time, hope this review helps with your decision to buy the game. Take my word or don't take it, but this is a game you will be happy with purchasing.

A Huge Disappointment After The First Resistance Game... 3 out of 5

I loved Resistance: Fall of Man but hate this game (note-I have not finished the single-player mode, I got halfway through and quit out of frustration). Why? While Resistance: FOM was original, strategic and exciting, this game is a boring, frustrating copycat FPS. The only ways this game has been enhanced are the graphics and multi-player.

Let's start with the good, shall we? The graphics are GREAT. They're truly beautiful. Everything looks realistic, even the arms and legs of your teammates. There have also been a few, small gameplay improvements. 1) Your teammates are more effective. They died very early on in the missions in RFOM. 2) You can now use the Auger more effectively because you can see, in limited fashion, through walls while using it. 3) Some of the new weapons are quite cool. The plasma cannon and Marksman are two of my favorite new additions.

I have to admit that I don't much care for multi-player in FPS games. If you play this online and find decent people to play with or against, it won't be half bad.

Now comes the bad and there's a lot of it. The health system from the first game has been replaced by a Call of Duty style rip off mode, in which there is no health bar. Instead, the screen flashes red if you take a hit and you must take cover to regenerate health. Other problems are noticeable as the game goes along. A particularly annoying features is that in many missions, there are simply tons of enemies. None of them are particularly hard to kill, but there will be hundreds in some cases and they ALL will make a beeline to you. They don't even see your teammates, it's completely bizarre. This problem did not exist in RFOM. The scenery is also overly bright and cheery. Gone is the dark look and feeling of dread from the first game. Also missing is the time consuming searching around a level to find the switch you need to continue. Some people didn't like that about the first game, but I did. It was a nice break from non-stop shooting.

The insanely high number of one-hit kills is a large part of what makes this game frustrating. There are many cases where you MUST run from an enemy, because it is literally unkillable. The Chameleons are not what I'm complaining about either, they don't frustrate me at all. I'm primarily referring to the Fury and the Swarm. You just can't kill them and will constantly be one-hit killed if you don't sprint away. Nathan Hale also sounds a little different to me, am I imagining things? Despite supposedly being on the brink of becoming a Chimera, he sounds the same. Furthermore, the game really suffers without any narration. There are also subtle little changes I hated, such as not being able to view intel documents you've just acquired without pausing the game. You'll also notice that gone are the missions where you can drive/pilot a tank, stalker or the like. That was really a fun feature in the first installment and makes this game feel too repetitive. Even the change in music was bad. When you die, you'll hear something that sounds like a miswritten theme for the epic Shogun, not a sci-fi based shooting game.

Despite it all, perhaps the worst feature is the ability to only carry two guns/weapons at once. I understand that techically adds realism, but what other part of this game is real? The imaginary guns or the virus that turns humans into alien-like creatures? It's excessively frustrating because you'll have to constantly drop a weapon you know, without a doubt, you'll want back later on.

Bottom line: If you want a good-looking, generic shooting, you'll love this game. But if you loved RFOM and want more of it, avoid this game like the plague.
