Who Knew Death Could be Fun! 5 out of 5

I got this for my son because he enjoyed his Death Jr titles on PSP and thought he would enjoy it with bigger and better gameplay that he can play with someone else. I wasn't wrong, he really enjoys playing this game. He is 15 and he does not like shoot em up games like most kids his age, he likes to figure things out. His games have to have a story and a purpose beyond just shooting everything in sight. He can play as the boy as his sister plays as the girl. The split screen is great because she is not as experienced in gaming so she is doing her own thing while he is doing his in their own screen. Sure a split screen can be distracting at times, when you are checking out what the other person is doing, but it sure beats having to wait for the other person to catch up. Overall it is a great game as a single or to play with family or friends, and isn't too complicated for any level of game play.

Just what I was looking for. 5 out of 5

I've always been a big fan of platform/adventure games. Especially when the games have a dark spooky feel to them. After playing "Voodoo Vince" and "Psychonauts" I've been searching for a good platform game that has a similar feel. Well after much searching I have found something which I consider to feel similar to those two games, and that something is "Death Jr: Root of Evil" for the Wii. This game has tons of atmosphere. Each level has its own unique style, but all carry the same twisted spooky vibe. The background music is pretty cool too. I enjoyed exploring every level because they are just just fun to look at. The gameplay is also good. There is almost a Mario Galaxy control system (using the numchuck to move and the controller to jump). You will also be aiming your weapons with the wii-mote, and this actually works very well. To me, this game is like a cross between Voodoo Vince and Zombies Ate my Neighbors. I would recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a good unique adventure with a great atmosphere and lots of humor.

A definite sleeper 4 out of 5

I hadn't even heard of this game. Just saw it for [...] at Gamestop and thought, "Sure. Why not?" I really wasn't expecting a great game. But that's what I got. The game has a ton of charm. It brings to mind Psychonauts and Nightmare Before Christmas artistically. And the controls are alot of fun (not counting the guns, which were a bit hard to handle at first). It's a pretty typical platformer, with a quirky story. The cutscenes in the beginning worried me, but things improved vastly beyond that cheese. The game is also challenging enough to keep you playing. Might even be a bit more challenging than the typical child cares for. The co-op play is wonderful. The split-screen works (which we all know is rare).

Bottom line, if you like platformers and psychotically cute storylines, you can't go wrong with this game. It's as cheap as a game can get. And it's a blast. I don't know why this isn't more popular.

Very Fun Game 5 out of 5

Death Jr: Root of Evil is fun from beginning to end. This game takes you on a journey as the grim reaper's adolescent son as he attempts to save the world with help from a group of his friends (who just happen to be evil, misfit, accidental geniouses - what do you expect from the son of the grim reaper?!). It has great characters (aside from one, who is a bit over the top - just my opinion), and a story that reels you in by being very funny. There are many forms of humor in this game; one liners, stories, level and character art, weapons (a flaming toilet paper launcher just to name one), menus, etc... The entire game premise is humorous, and keeps you very entertained throughout. There are some themes that may be a bit much for the younger ones, but not too bad...mostly crude humor with an occasional four letter word thrown in.

The actual gameplay is also pretty great, especially the split screen co-op. Each player has the freedom (to an extent) to do whatever they want. It actually makes the jumping puzzles more fun because there is someone else to help you through them. A small competition may also evolve, as both of you try to level up your moves the quickest, which can add another dimesion to level exploration.

It takes a bit to get used to looking around with the wii remote, but after a short while it becomes quite easy and useful. A nunchuck controller is needed to play this game, and for good reason. The extra buttons and joystick really come in handy. The jumping puzzles can sometimes be a little difficult, but after a while you get the hang of them. Combat is fun and special moves are easy to pull off if you remember that they exist. Aiming and most special moves are activated by the wii remotes unique movement functions. I have the most fun in melee range combat, but occasionally find myself wanting to stay back and use guns just for fun, as they add an entirely different feel to the game. Some enemies require different strategies, so you may be forced into ranged or melee from time to time.

The game is long, without being too long, and has good replay value (I've played through twice, and plan to do so again). My only real complaint with the game is that the final boss is a little disappointing. I would imagine after seeing what the boss was able to do throughout the game, that the final fight would have been more difficult. Other than that, this game is practically flawless, and a must for Wii owners. If nothing else, you'll at least have a good laugh!
