Editorial Review

An illustrated romp through one of the oddest and most fiercely competitive global competitions: the World Beard and Moustache Championships.

Since its humble beginnings in Germany in 1990, the World Beard and Moustache Championships has blossomed into an international event that has since been staged in Norway, Sweden, and, in 2003, the United States. The competition awards prizes in seventeen categories, such as Dali Moustache, Freestyle Goatee, Garibaldi, and German Imperial, and some of the best and most notable contestants from the last ten years are featured here. You will encounter Ted Sedman, president of London's Handlebar Club, who was in the Guinness Book of World Records for having Britain's longest moustache; Paul Miller and his impressive Fu Manchu; Gary Johnson and his award-winning Musketeer; and Bruce Roe and his manly Wild West-all brave, bold, and creative men united by a single goal: the pursuit of true individuality.

It's impossible not to be won over by this dedicated group of facial hair fantasists. Chock-full of photos that will tickle and fascinate, The World Beard and Moustache Championships is an irresistible tribute to these stylish and passionate creations.

Beard and moustache 5 out of 5

The item was in very good shape and came in timly fashion. Very good transaction.

not so much a book 2 out of 5

as a conference program. I thought there might be information on types of moustaches, with illustrations, plus a bit of history. It's just some information on a meeting of a moustache club, with bios of some of the members, and some details of who won prizes. There isn't even a complete set of pictures of the contest winners.

Bare Faces Have Empty Souls 5 out of 5

I attended the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Carson City on a lark, and entered myself as a contestant in a bout of sheer madness. It was pretty difficult to imagine what these people would be like. Before long, I learned that anyone willing to transform his face into a piece of abstract art is fine by me. This magical Halloween weekend of October, 2003 is well encapsulated in this amusing and photo-filled masterwork - and I don't just say that becuase my photo is the final image in the volume. Come to Berlin in October for the next competition and feel the excitement - just don't touch my beard.
